Company Overview

NEC was founded in 1899 and is based in Tokyo, Japan. They manufacture computers, electron devices, and communications equipment. Of interest to chip collectors, NEC was the first Japanese company to develop and manufacture a single chip microprocessor, the 751 also known as the uCom 4.

NEC was a manufacturer of discrete components, integrated circuits, and memory chips. NEC was one of the leaders in the early microprocessor industry both as a creator of new designs, as well as, a significant second source. Many of the first computerized games of the 70’s sported NEC processors.

Today NEC continues as a manufacturer of computers, supercomputers, communications equipments, and electronic devices.
